Materials and Resources:
- Hill of Fire by Thomas P. Lewis
General Activities:
- Students will create/ write a story about
someone living in Mexico.
- Procedure: Read Hill of Fire by
Thomas P. Lewis. to page 22. Pause at times to elicit conversation about
life for this family. Is it like yours or different. When youíve
read page 22, stop and brainstorm perceptions of this life.
Discussion Questions:
Ask questions about what kind of farmer this man is, what does he grow
(compare to things farmers grow in New Hampshire). How is he dressed? Do
you know anyone in NH who dresses like him? Why do you think he’s dressed
this way? Do New Hampshire farmers have afternoon rest periods? Why, why
not? Is it the same as the rest periods in Mexico? When students bring
up the fact that its hot in Mexico, ask why. Where is Mexico (south of New
Hampshire).
Evaluation:
The student can write a simple narrative.
